Burano is a vehicle-free island. Hence, it needs to be explored by walking.

As you get down at the vaporetti station, start walking straight. It will take you to the center of Burano which is also the main marketplace here.

The canals are dotted with many shops, restaurants, and colorful houses.

Stop by the shops as you might find some interesting artifacts.

You might also get to see a pre-wedding shoot going on here (we saw one 😊).

3. Catch a glimpse of Leaning Tower of Burano

Did you think only Pisa has a Leaning Tower?
Burano also boasts for its own Leaning Tower!

Of course not as tall as the Leaning Tower of Pisa – but there is a distinct tilt in the Tower that has earned it this name.

It can be easily located while in Burano and is located behind the Church of St. Martin Bishop.

4. Visit Burano Lace museum

Burano has a rich history of Lace manufacturing. Lace-making is an intricate art and is almost dying now.

Burano Lace Museum has preserved this art through various artifacts and displays of its history.

If you happen to visit the museum during early hours, you might chance upon old ladies handcrafting lace artifacts.

Burano Less Museum is covered under Venice Museum Pass.

If you do not have the museum pass, you can buy the tickets off the counter. It is priced at 5 Euros only.

Go to the Lace museum if you are interested in the subject.

Check out the official website to get some further information on Lace Museum.

Does that even need to be mentioned? You are in Italy and food is an integral part of the trip!
Burano offers some of the best sea-food cuisines which are a specialty of Venetian lagoon.

Chances are that it will be near lunchtime when you are in Burano. You can always settle down for a Pizza, Pasta or Risotto and finish it off with gelato.

Galuppi, the main street of the island is lined with many restaurants and bars. Grab a place in one of them for a hearty meal.

6. Shopping

The souvenir shops have a plethora of artifacts to spoil you. There are traditional Venetian masks, Murano glass products, key chains, fridge magnets, and much more.
There are lace artifacts as well – but be very careful while picking up one. Original handcrafted lace artifacts are very expensive and not pocket-friendly. We picked up a number of mini Venetian masks for our friends and family back home.

Final Thoughts

So what are you waiting for?  Make sure not to miss out a day trip to Burano while in Venice. It’s a gem.

Have you visited Burano already? I will be keen to hear your experience.
